LIFE SKILLS THROUGH MARTIAL ARTS
Karate for Kids is our program for children ages 7-14.
There are many reasons for kids to become involved in the martial arts. We have developed a program based on traditional Taekwondo for kids called Karate for Kids. The Karate for Kids system is based on a lifetime learning concept in addition to technical skills. The building blocks for our program include a standard belt/rank system and monthly lifeskills/themes.
Our belt/rank systems include 9 color belts or “grades” and 9 levels of black belts or “degrees”. The color belts, in order from beginner to advanced student, are white, orange, yellow, camouflage, green, purple, blue, brown, red. There is a transitional rank, recommended 1st degree black belt rank, signified by a half-red/half-black belt. Then, the black belt ranks ranging from 1st degree to 9th degree. More details on our ranking system can be found on the ATA website.
Our monthly monthly lifeskills/themes include the following:
- Goals
- Friendship
- Perseverance
- Self-Control
- Confidence
- Self-Improvement
- Courtesy
- Self Awareness
- Respect
- Integrity
- Self-Esteem
- Dedication
Four different colored Karate for Kids Victory Patches are available to accommodate all the stars that can be earned by a high achieving Karate Kid
In addition to monthly themes, our system includes the unique Karate for Kids Victory Patch. This patch is worn on their uniforms and students are awarded special Victory Stars. These different colored stars are earned for outstanding performance in karate class, school, home or at a tournament competition. Kids may receive the following stars for the following deeds:

Benefits of the Karate Kid Program
It doesn’t come naturally for many children, but rather is developed over a period of time. As the child accomplishes new goals, his or her confidence level increases. Children become more self confident in the “Karate for Kids” program because they progress individually at their own pace, and are not judged against others.
Children’s self defense takes many forms. The “Karate for Kids” program teaches children to think instead of panic in potentially serious situations as well as how to react to threats form other kids. Our program offers practical self defenses lessons that emphasize conflict resolution. We teach to practice common sense before self defense. If a situation does occur they and you can be confident that they will have had training to help them come out safely.
Our program focuses on teaching children to respect themselves and others. Respect, courtesy and personal integrity are values the “Karate for Kids” program instills in the students.
Being a “Karate Kid” also means being a better student. All kids in the “Karate for Kids” program learn skills such as following directions, paying attention in class, and participate in class activities that help them to become better students. Accepetable grades are required to test for the next belt level. Parents and teachers must sign a “Permission to Test” form in order for them to be able to test.
Our program helps each child to determine what their personal goals are. Once the “Karate for Kids” student (with your help and guidance) sets his/hers goals, our trained instructors will help the student reach for and achieve their goals.
Our instructors and many of our students provide the opportunity for positive role models. Your “Karate for Kids” student will also be taught to understand the difference between positive and negative role models, and constructive and negative behavior.
Physical participation in the “Karate for Kids” program challenges the entire body, developing coordination, balance, agility and poise, which can be neglected in many team sports. The ATA material emphasize both the left and right side of the body. This attention to entire body improves the students balance, eye to hand coordination, reaction time, and complements many other sports, such as soccer, baseball, softball, football, basketball, and gymnastics.
“Karate for Kids” lessons are a dynamic and challenging approach to the martial arts. The classes are designed to meet the level of all children whether they are athletic, energetic, awkward or shy, bold, nice, or maybe even a little wild once in awhile… Chance are the “Karate for Kids” program is probably for a kid just like your.
